You may choose, using the drop-down menu, from two thicknesses of hand-cut mirror:

> The 3/8” - 1/4” mirror pieces work best for most ceramic tile mosaics, as they approximate the thickness of the tiles. I cut these into rectangles that are roughly 3/4” x 3.5” which are perfect for making starbursts or long swirling lines in mosaic murals, as in the 2nd and 3rd photos.

> The pieces up to 1/8” work best with stained glass and other thin types of tiles, as in the 3rd and 4th photos. They’re cut with a rotary glass cutter, which makes mostly curved, irregular shapes.

With either thickness you choose, you’ll receive approximately 2 cups full of mirror, mailed in a small, flat-rate box. Shipping costs are included in the price of the mirror. (Local Portland folks who want to pick up mirror pieces, contact me to have shipping costs deducted from your purchase.)

If you’ve ever made mosaics with me, in my studio or at a mural site, or watched my mosaic how-to videos on YouTube, then you have a general idea of what kinds of tile I collect. The nature of salvaging materials is that my supply is constantly changing, so I can’t show you the exact pieces you will get. However, if you’re open to a bit of adventure and loads of possibilities, this MIRROR collection will delight you.

Note that the bits you receive may not all be the exact same thickness. Also, because the origin of most of the pieces is unknown, I can’t guarantee that all of it will be suitable for all extremes of weather. My motto is that making something beautiful, even if it does not last an eternity in a state of perfection, is better than not making anything. See what you can do to brighten up your world!

A little background: More than half of my 20+ years making mosaics have been spent scrounging, dumpster-diving, politely asking for, and stumbling upon troves of salvaged tile for use in large-scale, usually under-funded, community mosaic murals. I’ve developed a knack for tile collecting (and I share some of my tips here). I’m making my stash available to you, in case you don’t share my love of salvage yards, don’t have one nearby, or can’t afford the time it takes to scrounge around for beautiful, functional, ceramic mosaic tile.
