What: Although now I paint big public murals, I used to feel very… let’s say “stunted” creatively. I was full of perfectionist-type anxiety, and didn’t think I had a single creative idea. But I really wished I did! If that sounds familiar, this class is especially for you.
Every other month, Paint Night is customized for those of us who need some extra hand-holding and encouragement. There’s no shame in it! We’ve simply got art baggage to work through, and I can help. I’ll guide you through painting exercises—and mental shifts—so that you can actually have some FUN in the studio. Imagine how it will feel to loosen up and finally enjoy making art!
Who: inexperienced painters, or those bogged down with resistance and mental chatter
When: Friday, March 27th, 6:00 - 9:00 pm
Where: All Hands Art Studio, 5120 NE 24th Ave, Portland
Cost: the cost is higher than the “Paint Night for All” because with the smaller group size I can offer you loads of individualized attention.
Sliding scale $55-$75 when you commit by Tuesday, March 24.
$85 when you sign up on March 25 or 26. No sign-ups the day of the event.
Bring: materials are included, or you can bring your own. Bring all your angst and anxiety, too. :)
RSVP: This workshop is limited to 5 people. Email me to grab your spot.
In a low-anxiety, relaxed atmosphere, we’ll explore some of the following:
* mixing colors
* sampling different brush styles and brush strokes
* using thick and thin layers of paint
* ways to create texture
* using collage in a painting
* testing paints for transparency or opaqueness
* balance and composition
No, we won’t cover every topic in every workshop — that’s too much! However, I’m happy to field your specific questions.
Note to the Stubborn:
No one is born with the ability to paint a masterpiece. Being kind to yourself as you learn new skills is one of the best things you can do for your creative soul. I’ll share other mindset shifts that can save you decades of frustration and let you experience more ease and joy. Yes, even you!
