Online Mosaic Party!

Do you, like most people I know, have a box of leftover tile and broken plates stashed in your basement? Well, go dig them up ‘cause it’s time to finally start that mosaic project you’ve been planning for so many years. 😉

This is an online Zoom-based “gathering” where we’ll make things together (you’re welcome to join even if you’re not doing mosaic) and share ideas. I’ll give a brief demo of how to mix thin-set mortar and how to stick your little mosaic pieces on your base. You can ask me any questions about the process, materials, tools, or whatever else and I’ll do my best to answer them.

Email me (pam@allhandsart.com) to sign up. I’ll send you the link a few hours before the mosaic party starts.

Mosaic is a two-part process, and the two parts cannot be done on the same day. That’s why I’ve scheduled a second session for the following week. Both are free of charge.

Need materials? I’ve got mosaic kits and other supplies for sale in my shop.

For step one of the process you’ll want to gather or purchase:

  • little bits to stick on, like cast-off tiles, broken dishware or ceramics (flatter is better, i.e. plates > mugs), half marbles, etc.

  • a tile adhesive, such as thin-set mortar. Some other glues could work but I like thin-set best.

  • a clean, empty yogurt container or the like to mix your adhesive in

  • a putty knife, plastic cutlery knife, palette knife, or similar stirring and spreading tool. It’s gonna get messed up, so no fancy silver pie server, please!

  • a surface to mosaic, such as a concrete stepping stone, retaining wall, or a large floor tile which makes a great base. I’ve had a bowling ball sitting around for years, waiting to be mosaicked, so that’s what I plan to work on. 🤓

For a preview of the process, or if you’re interested but unable to join, you can watch my how-to-mosaic videos on YouTube. I’ve been surprised by the popularity of titles like “How to Break, Sort, and Store Tiles for a Mosaic.” Who knew?
