Painting Possibilities (acrylics)

  • All Hands Art Studio 5120 NE 24th Ave Portland United States (map)

Explore the joy and versatility of working with acrylic paints!

Cost: $49 (includes all materials)

Whether you’re brand new to painting with acrylics, or want to practice and maybe add a few ideas to your repertoire, this class is for you. The question we’ll be asking is: “What would happen if…?”

We’ll also try our hand at creating a painting, either from “life” (an object in the room/ a still life), or from an image. But please note: This is different from a “sip & paint” type of experience. Rather than all of us completing a version of the same painting, you will be learning fundamentals and building your creative muscles, at a pace and level that works for you. This means you might not take home a finished painting at the end of each class. That’s not the goal here.

All materials are provided (though you can always bring some of your own, too).

In a very low-anxiety, playful atmosphere, we’ll try out things like:
* mixing colors
* sampling different brush styles and brush strokes
* using thick and thin layers
* creating texture in different ways
* adding found images with collage
* testing paints for transparency or opaqueness
* playing with composition

No, we probably won’t cover every topic in every class, because: overwhelm.

My philosophy in a nutshell:
I believe that in any art form, the formula for success = getting to know the materials + practicing, practicing, practicing. It’s that simple. The more you practice, the more comfortable you get with the materials, until eventually you can bend them to your whim and express what you want to say. Or just keep testing new ways of using them, which is what all the people you studied in art history class did.

Anyone with the interest and curiosity can do this. If you’re reading this, that definitely means YOU.
