collaged images, fabric, sewing patterns, lace, homework pages, sheet music and small photos, with acrylic paint on canvas; 36″ x 60″
Before sticking anything on this large canvas, I painted the entire thing a fire engine red. Then I used texture paste to divide it into a series of boxed sections to make it feel more manageable. Whew. I knew what I wanted the central image to be: the two houses, one downstream from the other. The other sections (like the large one) represent different facets of my life as a then-45-year-old. Turns out that middle age is an awesome place to be, apart from minor physical deterioration.
